REFLECTION
We were not shocked to see how people are so easily swayed by clever marketing and appealing catch words. We think that the labeling needs be simple and clear, knowing the obesity rate is growing out of control. It clearly is up to the people to take responsibility for their own health.
QUESTION TO PONDER
How can we get around the manipulation of our food marketing industry and convince the public that calorie dense foods cause major health implications?

Kathy and Jeanne's Take
We loved this article. Some of the information was very surprising to us. We felt slighted by these industries who since 1960 have manipulated our food for money. We definitely want this book and would like to educate ourselves about these hidden dangers in foods.
I am very concerned now about reading labels. I thought that making a “low fat” food purchase was healthier for me. But now, I will be a more educated consumer, and certainly share this with my family.

Pat and Fran's Take
I was surprised to learn how we can eat less and still eat more than we realized due to the additives, HFCS, trans fats, etc. We really eat that much more than people in the 70s? The HFCS increases our desire for sweets. How cruel is that!
Aside from cooking from scratch and becoming great friends with a local farmer (are there any close around?) what are we to do to eat healthy?

Kristi and Lynda's Take
The article discusses the way food is manufactured today and how people are manipulated into eating it. It explains that food is cheap and it tastes good and it makes people want to spend more money even though people know how unhealthy it is.
What do you think would be the consequences if we continue on this path of being manipulated?
