Amy and Jody's Take

REFLECTION
We were not shocked to see how people are so easily swayed by clever marketing and appealing catch words. We think that the labeling needs be simple and clear, knowing the obesity rate is growing out of control. It clearly is up to the people to take responsibility for their own health.

QUESTION TO PONDER
How can we get around the manipulation of our food marketing industry and convince the public that calorie dense foods cause major health implications?

  1. It's true - advertising 101 - why should we have the audacity to think that manufacturers care about providing a healthy food choice? It's not in their economic vocabulary.

  2. Well, it starts one voice at a time. The best you can do for now is to change yourself.

  3. The bottom line is always $, so if there is another way for the food industry to continue making money and doing it in a healthy way, they might take note and do so. However, they will then have to be the ones to push these new, healthier products to consumers and they are certainly good at manipulation.
